School & Camp Group Tours
Discussion-based, interactive tours led by experienced guides and docents are available to school and camp groups. Students develop their critical thinking skills through active conversations and activities centered on observation and analysis of the art and natural surroundings. Tours relate to the California state standards for Art and English Language Arts. Each tour will be tailored to your students' ages and abilities. The Preserve welcomes inclusion classes and students with special needs.
Advance reservations are required for all school groups. Reservations
707-226-5991 x25 or tours@dirosapreserve.org.
Please call or e-mail and provide us with the following information: your name, phone number, email address, school or camp, grade level, number of students, and your requested tour date and time. Young at Art: Pre-K to
grade 12
Tours are adapted to meet the ages and abilities
of your students. Young students identify colors, lines, shapes,
and patterns throughout the Preserve and learn to investigate
art and nature through observation and discussion-based activities.
Students explore art made by traditional materials, such as paint
or clay, and reclaimed objects and junk, such as glass bottles,
plastic cars, and thumb tacks. Older students may discuss how
art can reflect social and political issues through drawing, painting,
sculpture, and photography. Following the tour, students make
observational or imaginary drawings.
Teen-to-Teen
Tours: Grades 9 to 12
Engaging and relevant tours are led by teen peers. High school
students tour the di Rosa Preserve galleries and sculpture
meadow with teen docents, learn about the collection and specific
works selected by their peers. The teen docents are trained by
Santa Rosa High School's ArtQuest program in collaboration with
the di Rosa Preserve. Please email or call 707-226-5991 x17 for reservations or information.
